Aftercare

It is critical to follow all aftercare instructions to prevent complications, scarring and to achieve optimum results.  Please read carefully.

DO NOT SOAK the treated area in water.  You can shower as normal but keep the area out of the shower, spray the best you can and do not let the area stay wet for more than a few seconds.  No soaking in water or the scab will get destroyed.

NO BATHING, SWIMMING, SAUNAS, HOT TUBS, TANNING, OR INTENSE EXERCISE.

DO NOT DISRUPT the scabbing process (ie. No picking, scratching etc.) All scabbing needs to fall off naturally.  If you force or pick a scab off, you will disrupt the process and possibly cause scarring.

TREAT AREA WITH TLC.  The edges can be wiped clean from any dripping blood, the wound should be left alone and not get wet for 24 hours.  Once the scab is formed, bathing is normal but wash the area gently with the fingers and soap or a saline solution and rinse.  Keep the area clean and absolutely no creams, nothing applied leave it alone.  If it itches and is a safe area other than around the eyes dab with a little alcohol.

ONCE ALL SCABBING HAS NATUALLY FALLEN OFF, apply one drop of aftercare oil, twice a day, every day for a minimum of 4 weeks or until next session.  DO NOT start applying the aftercare oil UNTIL all scabbing has completely fallen off.  It is our goal to keep the area as dry as possible until all scabs have naturally fallen off.

Lightening and/or removing pigment can be a long process and patience is required. Please be patient and give the process a fair chance to work.  It can take up to 6 sessions to fully remove pigment. How many sessions needed will depend on how saturated the pigment is, how deep it was implanted and how much needs to be removed for the desired result.  In many cases only a percentage of the density needs to be lightened/removed and then we can continue the correction process by colour correcting.

We use a local compounding pharmacy called Artisan Chemist located in Warana. Upon booking confirmation, we will send your contact details along with a prescription to the chemist. Aftercare

Immediately after the procedure your technician will apply clear films over the tattooed area.

These can be removed that night during your shower. Gently remove them under warm (not hot) running water. You can let the water run over the tattoo area for a few seconds (do not submerge for too long and do not wipe).

After your show gently pat dry around the tattoo area and apply a new film. This film should then be left on for 7 days or as long as it stays on up until 7 days. Whilst this film is on you can shower as normal but be careful not to submerge for too long under the water.

No pools, hot tubs, saunas or excessive exercise during this time as it will cause your films to come off

Remove your film gently the same way as your first one.

You may notice some flaking or peeling of tattoo once you remove your film.

You can now gently wash your tattoo daily and apply the aftercare cream provided twice daily until finished.

Do’s and Dont’s

Limit excessive sweating for 7 days.

Avoid exposing the wound to direct sunlight for 60 days as it can cause discoloration.

Do not swim, use bath, use the sauna for 7 days.

Refrain from using any creams or products in the treated area other than the aftercare provided to you.

Moderate exercise is ok after 3 days.

Smoking can lead to infection and delayed healing; therefore, it should be avoided.

To promote faster healing, it is recommended that you abstain from consuming sweet foods and drinks, as they can increase the sugar levels in your body. The higher your sugar level, the longer it will take for you to heal. Eating vegetables , supplements and collagen drink can aid in the healing process.

Drink plenty of water.

Staying hydrated can help promote faster healing and better result

Refrain from picking at the scab as this can cause further damage and delay healing.

Avoid scratching, scrubbing, rubbing, or picking at the scabs that forms after the procedure.

It is important to let it flake off naturally, as removing it prematurely can result in pulling out the pigment underneath it.

  • Do not drink alcohol 24 – 48 hours before your tattoo
  • Do not consume coffee before your procedure
  • Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood) – paracetamol is ok

Numbing Cream information:

For areola tattooing we recommend using numbing cream for your comfort in which we will help you organize. (please note if you have scar tissue in the area we will be working on due to surgery, you may have decreased sensitivity and probably won’t need numbing). We use a local compounding pharmacy called Artisan Chemist located in Warana. Upon booking confirmation, we will send your contact details along with a prescription to the chemist. You should then receive a txt message from them within 48hrs with a link to your numbing cream. You can either arrange to pick this up from their store or get it posted to yourself or straight to our clinic, (please allow extra time if posting). Please remember to bring your numbing cream with you to your appointment. Failure to bring numbing cream may result in your appointment being rescheduled on the day in which your deposit will be forfeited.

Aftercare

If your technician has applied clear barrier film to the area please follow the following instructions:

Immediately after the procedure your technician will apply clear films over the tattooed area.

These can be removed that night during your shower. Gently remove them under warm (not hot) running water. You can let the water run over the treated area for a few seconds (do not submerge for too long and do not wipe).

After your show gently pat dry around the treated area and apply a new film.

You may notice some flaking or peeling of the treated area once you remove your film.

You can now gently wash the area daily and apply the aftercare cream provided twice daily until finished.

If your technician has NOT applied a clear barrier film please follow the following instructions:

Immediately after the procedure your technician will have applied a barrier cream to the treated area. You may leave this on for the rest of the day. Ensure you are wearing loose clothing so your skin can breathe and is not irritated.

Later that day you may have a quick warm (not hot) shower and gently wash the area with an antibacterial soap. You can let the water run over the tattoo area for a few seconds (do not submerge for too long and do not wipe hard).

Apply __ twice daily until the treated area is fully healed – no dryness or redness

What to expect after the treatment

Treated area will be swollen and red immediately after.

The next day, the swelling will subside but the area will remain red.

After 72 hours, the redness will turn into brown pigmentation.

This hyperpigmentation may last anywhere from 7 to 45 days.

As long as the treated area is still darker than the skin, it is not yet fully healed.

Achieving the best possible outcome may require 2 to 4 sessions, depending on your skin type.

Aftercare

Immediately after needling the skin will appear red and will look flushes or mildly sunburnt

Bruising or areas of pinpoint bleeding may be apparent if the client has had a deeper treatment in certain areas of the skin.

This skin will feel tight and dry and can also appear slightly puffy. Especially around the eye area

Only a medicated, breathable makeup can be applied immediately post procedure, and no sunscreen is to be applied on the day of treatment.

You may take Panadol after your treatment but DO NOT take any Nurofen/anti-imflammatories.

The following day the skin will appear to be red, upon waking there is likely to be mild inflammation and swelling around the eyes.

A gentle cleanse can be performed, hydrating moisturiser and mineral makeup and SPF can be applied. You may have been provided with an Omega 3 oil. This is to be applied after your moisturiser and is important to keep your skin barrier hydrated during the healing process.

On day 3 – the swelling will have subsided; skin can still be slightly pink and if any bruising occurred during treatment it should now start to lighten.

Clients now can return to regular skin care products as recommended by their technician.

Avoid exfoliation altogether up until your follow up 2 weeks after initial treatment is preferred.

Active ingredients (retinols and Vit C should be avoided for 7 days, alcohol- based toners should be avoided for 10-14 days and acids (glycolic, lactic, AHAs and BHAs) are only recommended 14 days after treatment.

Days 4-6 there is minimal, if any, redness and swelling. Dry and flakey skin can still be present at this point. Ensure you are avoiding scratching or picking off the dry skin to avoid any further scarring.

By day 7, all healing should be completed and no more redness, bruising or peeling should be present.

During healing process, we need you to NOT be exposed to or do the following:

  • Sun exposure
  • Intense exercise or gym that may cause sweating
  • Sauna, hot baths/showers, spa
  • Self-tanning
  • Swimming in pool or ocean
  • Chemical peels, muscle relaxants or dermal fillers (recommended minimum 5 day wait post treatment)
  • Other facial treatments (avoid for minimum 7 days)
  • Occasionally clients with a history of cold sores may have an outbreak post procedure and may need to take an antiviral before treatment.
  • Small pustule outbreaks may also occur as well as some bruising.

Most commonly clients will experience redness, stinging, dryness and flaking after needling.

Aftercare

Immediately after the treatment, small, usually non-bleeding scabs can be seen.

In the first 1 to 3 days after the treatment, swelling of different severity may occur.

After 7 days, the small brown dots resulting from treatment and wound healing should have disappeared. Light redness can be visible for 4-8 weeks.

 Day of treatment

You can use ice packs on the evening of your treatment if needed, 10 mins on 10 mins off.  Ensure the ice pack is covered with a tissue so the treated area is not getting wet from the condensation

After eye lift treatments it is recommended that you sleep elevated for the first 2-3 nights, this will help the lymph fluid drain away and reduce swelling

Do not cover with plasters or occlusive dressings.

If you notice any weeping from the small scabs use a tissue to gently dab the area dry. Repeat as necessary.

Any burning sensation will soon reduce. Anti-inflammatory/antihistamine medication can help.

Day 1-7 until the scabs fall off

Keep the area dry until scabs have naturally fallen off.

Apply aftercare morning & night with a cotton bud or clean fingertips (do not over saturate the skin – only rice grain size is needed)

You can apply mineral foundation to camouflage scabs if needed but it is not recommended.

Never pick or scratch! It is important that the resulting scabs/crusts are not removed. (Never scratch, it may result in scarring)

During healing process, we need you to NOT be exposed to or do the following:

  • Sun exposure
  • Intense exercise or gym that may cause sweating
  • Sauna, hot baths/showers, spa
  • Self-tanning
  • Swimming in pool or ocean
  • Chemical peels, muscle relaxants or dermal fillers
  • Other facial treatments (avoid for minimum 7 days)

Once scabs have fallen off

You can perform a basic skin routine cleanser, moisturisers, and SPF until your follow up appointment. Hyaluronic acid and eye cream is recommended to add into your routine at this stage. Do not exfoliate or apply any active products e.g. retinols, glycolic, AHA’s or BHA’s during this time.

After the crusts peel off, a new, pink skin emerges. This skin must be protected from direct sunlight with a high UV protection factor (50+) for at least 3 months.

Sports, swimming, and saunas are only permitted once all the crusts have fallen off and the wound is completely closed/dry. Aftercare is the most important part of the treatment and must be observed.

Note that after the crusts have fallen off, a slight redness and light pitting may remain, It usually takes 4-6 weeks until the skin regains its normal color; it can however take 2 to 3 months depending on the skin type and the individual.
