What is 3D areola tattooing?
3D areola and nipple tattooing is an art of tattooing which uses multiple colours and techniques to recreate realistic looking areolas and nipples. It is an accurate representation of a nipple or areola that is designed to look three dimensional but is flat to touch.
The process of reconstructing breasts and is highly sought after following medical treatments such as mastectomy’s due to breast cancer.
This treatment is very special to us and helps clients finish their journey and gain back confidence. This treatment can be performed on flat breasts, natural breasts or reconstructed breasts as well as reconstructed nipples.

A realistic nipple and areola can be recreated following a single or double mastectomy, with or without surgically reconstructed nipples.
For bilateral tattooing, we can design a new set of areolas to complement your reconstructed breasts. For unilateral tattooing, we carefully match the colour, size, shape and position of your remaining natural areola.
Following gender-affirming or top surgery
Areola tattooing can recreate, resize or redefine the nipple and areola following gender-affirming surgery.
Your design will be personalised to your body and the appearance that feels most comfortable and affirming for you.
Following a breast lift, reduction or other surgery
Surgery can sometimes change the shape, colour or symmetry of the areolas or leave visible scarring around them.
Depending on the area, tattooing may be used to restore missing colour, improve the appearance of symmetry or help suitable scars blend more naturally.

How long after surgery can I have areola tattooing?
The area must be completely healed before it can be tattooed.
The appropriate timing depends on your surgery, scar maturation, medical treatment and individual healing. We will assess the skin during your consultation and may request clearance from your surgeon or medical practitioner.
Many clients can get tattooing from 3months post surgery.
Can you match my remaining natural areola?
Yes. For unilateral tattooing, we carefully assess the colour, size, shape, position and natural details of your existing areola.
While no tattoo can guarantee a perfect match, the pigments and design will be customised to create the closest possible visual balance.
Can you tattoo over scars?
Suitable, fully healed scars may be tattooed, but not every scar is ready or appropriate for treatment.
We’ll assess the scar’s colour, texture, maturity and overall condition before making a recommendation.
Is the tattoo actually three-dimensional?
The tattoo is flat to the touch. Its three-dimensional appearance is created using highlights, shadows, colour variation and carefully placed details.
If you would prefer physical projection, we can also discuss nipple prosthetics.
Can I choose the size, shape and colour?
Absolutely. Your design is created collaboratively.
We’ll guide you through the available options and recommend proportions that complement your body, but you will be involved in decisions about the placement, size, shape, colour and overall appearance.
